VMware and Xen integration

Virtualisation is everywhere

Now it’s a common thing to have ESX or Xen servers. It became natural to all administrators to put new servers in a virtualized envrionnement if possible.

Of course, you can get problems on the virtual machine, but also on the virtual server (ESX or Xen server) hosting them. You need to get this link as a dependency so if the whole virtual server is down, you can focus on this root problem first, and fix it very quickly.

Automatic dependency creation

One problem is that such links are moving : the VMotion is a great and useful feature but it can be hard for your administrators to move virtual machines, and then update the monitoring tool. That why Shinken will help you by automatically detect the virtual server/virtual machine link, and create automatically these dependency links!

VMotion support!

If your virtual machine is moved from an host to another, it’s not a problem, Shinken will detect this VMotion it and update the link without having to restart the whole monitoring stack!

From now only the ESX is managed, but the Xen will be released soon.
