There are online development resources for the Shinken project that go through coding a simple feature, learning the development guidelines, the testing servers and integrated test cases. Plus Shinken is on hosted on github making it easy to test new releases, make changes, submit them back to the project. You can even live edit files and automatically send back a pull request, great for documentation, comments and small corrections.
